Who we are…
Who We Are
We, Ben and Jenna, are makers at heart. We met in college and our favorite dates were ones where we were building stuff; from a diy pottery wheel out of a ceiling fan to a custom sewing machine table for Jenna. Once we got married and were working as a mechanical engineer and a teacher, we knew that we wanted more.
How we started
Ben always dreamed of being his own boss and wanted to start his own business doing something he loved. We made coffee tables as a fun after work hobby. Coffee tables eventually turned into dining tables and we didn’t know if we would ever make the jump to doing this full time.
July of 2022 we found out we were going to have a surprise baby! What better thing to make you evaluate your life goals and dreams than your first child?! We decided that if we were ever going to make the jump it would have to be now because after you have kids it is just so much harder to leave a stable job.
At the beginning of August of 2022 Ben left his full time job as a mechanical engineer and started pursuing our woodworking business full time. Jenna was still a middle school teacher and taught up until our baby boy was born in March of 2023 and now she also works with this business full time. Odds are if you are are communicating with us it is Jenna on the other end of the phone/computer!
Our dream…
Silver Dollar Woodcraft has already met so many milestones, from upgrading tools to supporting our growing family full time. We are currently in the process of fulfilling one of our major dreams: building a shop! Up until this point we have worked out of our homes 2 car garage and space has been TIGHT.
We would love to eventually have our own showroom with an attached workshop. The idea of having a space where we can host workshops for the community or even teach the next generation about the joys of woodworking is so incredibly exciting to us. There is plenty of other fun ideas that we have which we hope to eventually bring to life, but for now we are so grateful for the ways Silver Dollar Woodcraft has evolved.
Our main dream continues to remain the same as it always was. Create beautiful pieces that families are able to make countless memories around for the rest of their lives. If that is the only thing we accomplish, then fine by us!
Why “Silver Dollar Woodcraft”?
Originally our business name was J&B Woodcraft but it just never felt like that was meant to be. We bounced back and forth trying to determine what would really fit for us for a long time, then it clicked... Watch below to hear why, “Silver Dollar Woodcraft”.
